Why you should trust your graphic designer

It can take a lot for some to put their trust in a graphic designer, I totally get it. To hand over something as crucial as your brand identity to anyone, let alone a designer you have only just met, can be quite daunting.

So my aim here is to point out, from a designer's point of view, why you can relax and put your trust in the right designer.

You probably hear all the time ‘invest in your brand identity’, ‘don't skimp out on a strong identity from the start’ - well it's all true, but I can totally understand how scary it can be choosing that right designer for your brand - ‘Are they going to get it right?’ Do they know where I’m coming from?’ “What if they go in the wrong direction and I spend so much money and get no where in the end?’

The reality is, the above can happen, however if you've compared designer's work, viewed their portfolio, read testimonials, viewed their style, then the rest will be purely based on trust. Trust can make all the difference to your design experience. How so? Let’s explore this with a few points below...

Trust their creativity…

People work better when given a brief on their task and then left to their own devices to do what they do best. A designer is no different. A designer’s best work will come from a trusting relationship. Design, is in fact our passion; we live and breathe it daily. So letting the designer explore and be as creative as possible can lead to amazing results and show you an array of work that you may never have thought of. I didn’t want to mention the ‘m’ word but here I am, Im going to say it… Micromanaging your designer will be the fastest way to kill the relationship. A good designer thrives on a challenge and wants to give you design that is out of this world and original, so holding their hand at every little design tweak is not going to show their true design ability. It’s also not the reason why you’ve paid for their service.

You’ve hired them for a reason... Whilst it is important to be discerning about the designer you decide to trust with your brand in the first place, remember that you’ve hired them for a reason. Designing is what we do day in day out and, checking out the latest trends, sourcing beautiful images, finding unusual fonts. A good designer wants your brand to succeed and would want to show off your work, so it’s in their interest to provide a solution that we are proud of and that you are happy with too.

We're here to help you focus on what you do best... What do I mean by that? Whether you’re starting a new business or want to elevate your current business, take a second to remember the reason you chose to hire a designer.

Just because you run your own business, doesn’t mean you need to be an expert at every facet of it. Not only does outsourcing those things you don’t have experience with mean you’re giving your business the best chance at success, it also frees you up to focus on other aspects of your business that are within your expertise. So before you know it, your designer has created an amazing logo for you while you're dealing with the daily stresses that come with running a business.

A great relationship begins with trust... The foundation of all great relationships is trust. Yes Im still talking about design.. Of course it needs to come from both parties, both the designer and the client. The designer trusts that the client knows their own business and their own clients. If, during the process, you feel that a design draft will not connect with your business’s target market, your designer needs to listen and adjust their work accordingly. Designers love hearing feedback, so if there is a preference in style or colour, this is the time to be honest and express your thoughts and the designer can advise based on their expertise as well as provide an alternative if that is needed.

A the end of the day, the decision is all yours, it is your brand/business of course, but trusting your designer and their expertise will entirely change the nature of the relationship. Nothing inspires creativity like a healthy working relationship.
